Rajasthan: Traders seek rebates for Diwali decoration

As many as 20 representatives of the various business and trade organisations met mayor Ashok Lahoti on Friday for seeking relaxation in advertisement taxes and electricity tariff for Diwali decoration before the code of conduct for assembly elections comes into effect.

They urged the state government to issue an order for exemption in advertisement taxes and electricity tariffs. Traders informed the mayor about their problems of markets who assured them that all the grievances of traders will be resolved in a week.

City traders decorate markets every year on Diwali for which the state government gives 100% exemption in advertisement taxes for five days. Apart from this, electricity is also provided at the concessional rate. Generally, this discount is issued four to five days before Diwali.

Assembly elections will be held in December and the code of conduct may come into effect by the end of next week. Therefore, traders want the state government to issue exemption orders. A meeting of traders and municipal officials was held under the chairmanship of Mayor Lahoti. Jaipur District Shopkeeper Traders Federation president Suresh Saini gave a memorandum to the mayor for relaxation for advertisement taxes and the electricity tariff.

Mayor said that the order for exemption in advertising taxes will be released soon. He will talk to Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for providing electricity at concessional rate.

Tripolia Bazar, Johari Bazar, Chandpole Bazar and Kishanpole Bazar traders expressed resentment at the slow pace of the smart city projects. They said that due to smart city project work, the streets have been barricaded. They are facing problems. Traders demanded to construct toilets in the markets. The Mayor assured them all the problems including road lights, cleaning, road repair, smart city works, to be disposed of in a week.
