While the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) employees are already on a strike demanding wages according to seventh pay commission recommendations, a retired employee allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train passing through the Civil Lines crossing. Interestingly, while the roadways workers’ union claimed that their colleague could have committed suicide due to alleged non-payment of retirement dues, the family members claimed that retirement dues were not the reason behind the tragic episode.
Identified as Virendra Nath Bhargav, the man had retired from the Vaishali Nagar depot of RSRTC at Jaipur in January this year.
After the matter came to light, roadways employees rushed to the spot. While the cops recovered the dismembered parts of Bhargava’s body, the striking employees started claiming that the man committed suicide as the retirement benefits were still due to him. “He occasionally visited the dharna venue to meet staffers. His retirement benefits were also due. This could be the reason behind the suicide,” Kishan Singh Rathore, general secretary of Rajasthan Roadways workers’ union (CITU), said. The employees even claimed that the man was in depression due to the non-release of retirement benefits.
The police have registered a case and have started to investigate the cause that prompted the deceased to take the extreme step.
On the other hand, the claims by the roadways employees union were dismissed by the family members of the deceased. The family claimed that Bhargava or any family member was not looking for retirement benefits and they were not facing any financial constraint.
The family members also claimed that the man committed suicide due to personal issue than those concerned with roadways employees’ union demands or his own dues.
