Jaipur: Govt is blind, deaf and dumb, says City bus staff

The striking employees adopted the way of Gandhism to oppose the government and to give strengthen their strike on Gandhi Jayanti on Tuesday. The striking employees of low-floor buses Jaipur City Transport Service Limited (JCTSL) sat on a dharna wearing a black ribbon on eyes and mouth to show their protest and were holding banners which read ‘government is blind, deaf and dumb’.

This protest was held at Gandhi Circle on JLN Marg. It did not stop here, later the employees took out the rally from Chomu Pulia and Sikar Road. The low-floor strike has entered its 16th day on Tuesday. The girls of two colleges came on the road and raised slogans demanding to resume the service of low-floor buses.

Few girls tried to block the Tonk Road near Ajmeri Gate and raised slogans to start service. However, police dispersed the girls to avoid any situation of jam on this busy road of the city.

The buses are on strike since September 17. The students, mostly girls are more troubled due to the strike of these low-floor buses.

The information assistants are also on strike and are sitting on mahapadav in Sanganer peacefully. They remained on mahapadav on Gandhi Jayanti too. Moreover, thousands of employees of Panchayati Raj department who are on strike since last many days took out “Atmasamman Suraksha” rally on Tuesday. Giving the information, state president of Rajasthan Gram Vikas Adhikari Sangh informed that they were planning to hand over resignations to mark their protest.

Since last few days, various sections of state government employees are on strike. The ministerial employees which form the largest section of the staff are sitting on mahapadav at a ground in Mansarovar while roadways employees are already on strike. The elections are around the corner and employees are pressing the government with various demands.

Chief Secretary Helms High-Level Meet

With the upcoming visit of prime minister Narendra Modi in Ajmer, the state government has got into action to pacify the striking employees and break the strike. A high-level meeting was conducted at the chief minister residence on Tuesday afternoon. Senior officials including chief secretary DB Gupta, ACS finance Mukesh Sharma, officials from the department of personnel and transport minister Yunus Khan were present in the meeting, informed the sources. Sources inform that some initiative will be taken by the government at the earliest so that the employees get back to work before Modi’s visit to Ajmer on October 6.
