The mother and brother of Suresh Meghwal were in for a shock when they got up on Tuesday morning to find him seated next to the bodies of his wife and son with their throats slit, and a noose in his hand.
According to police, in a gruesome act, Suresh ended up killing his wife and 8-year-old son, with a stone-cutter in Banar, Jodhpur, late on Monday night. After committing the ghastly act, he tried to commit suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan in his house, but could not muster the courage to tie the noose. He then sat next to the bodies the entire night with a rope in his hand.
The man is said to be mentally unstable and the reason behind the murders is yet to be ascertained, the police said. Suresh has been taken into custody by the police for questioning.
According to the police, Suresh lived with his family near Gate Number 2 of Nandhri Goshala in Jodhpur and is a construction worker. He was living with his wife identified as Teja Devi, 33, and son Vikram, 8 while his mother and brother lived in another room, in the same house.
On Tuesday morning, Suresh’s mother and brother found Teja and Vikram in a pool of blood and Suresh sitting next to their bodies.
His brother then informed the police which upon reaching the spot found the bodies of mother and son with their throat slit. Also found in the room was a hand-grinder used to cut stone and a sword.
Seeing the blood stains on the grinder, the cops suspect that Suresh butchered the duo with it. A cloth hanging from the fan was also found inside the room, said ACP Navita Khokhar. It seems that Suresh, after murdering his wife and son was willing to end his life but developed cold feet, the ACP said.
Later the FSL team collected evidence from the spot and bodies were sent to the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem.
According to the police, Suresh and Teja were married since nine years and Suresh is believed to be mentally unstable. It is also being reported that Suresh was undergoing some financial problems and was troubled over a family dispute since long. The dispute over property was still on, said sources. The cops are interrogating Suresh to ascertain the motive behind the double murder.
