Lights, music and fireworks marked the inaugural of Dravyavati riverfront in Jaipur on Tuesday. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje dedicated the riverfront to the people of Jaipur commenting, “A dream project comes true for new Jaipur”. The state government had made elaborate arrangements for the inaugural event at the Shipra Path landscaped park located on the riverbank.
Raje inaugurated the first stretch of the 16-km-long riverfront. The stretch includes landscaped public parks, and a state-of-the-art experience centre at Shipra Path. The stretch comes with a dedicated cycle track and public facilities.
The park shimmered with skylights, banks were decked with garlands and balloons, while floating lamps glittered in the near steady water of Dravyavati. It was, however, a huge gathering of local residents that added festivities to the celebrations. While several ministers, bureaucrats and other dignitaries gathered at the landscape park, hundreds of families who turned up at the riverbank made it a lively sight.
The authorities in anticipation of a high citizen turnout had deployed a large number of policemen. Arrangements were made to keep the crowd entertained. There were groups of cultural dancers performing alongside the banks at Shipra Path. There was provision for refreshments, with stalls from Masala Chowk offering choicest of eatables.
Citizen Speak
“It is indeed exciting to see a dirty culvert being transformed in a beautiful destination, however, the police are unnecessary hassle,” says Mohit Sharma, a local resident.
